August's numbers show that housing prices are continuing to rise in the Baltimore area.

The median sales price for a home in the Baltimore metro area is up 5.7 percent from one year ago at $280,000, which is the highest for August sales in a decade, according to MarketStats by ShowingTime.

The highest price for any month in a decade was in June at $285,000, according to the data.

Baltimore County saw a 7 percent increase, with a price of $252,500, while Anne Arundel saw a 5.6 percent increase with $350,000 and Harford saw a 0.2 percent increase at $265,500. Howard County continues to remain the most expensive county in the region with $440,000 and Baltimore remained the lowest with a median price of $158,000. 

Only Carroll County remained without an increase holding steady at $325,000.

Houses in the Baltimore metro area stayed on the market for an average of 22 days, which is four days fewer than in the previous year. Sellers are getting more than 96 percent of their asking price.

Sales volume was up 6.7 percent from a year ago to $1.25 million, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Contracting inventory was down by 3.2 percent from the previous year, with just over 10,000 active listings. 

The number of new listings was up 11.3 percent at 5,286, which made it the largest year-over-year increase in almost 2.5 years.
