Coppin State University’s softball team defeated Maryland Eastern Shore 10-0 on April 4, completing a three-game sweep in their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series.
The win marks Coppin State’s fifth victory of the season and improves their conference record to 4-8. The result leaves Maryland Eastern Shore with a record of 9-27 overall and 1-11 in MEAC play.
Emily Quintero, a junior from Oceanside, California, pitched a shutout for Coppin State. She allowed only two hits and two walks while striking out three batters. Quintero worked out of a bases-loaded situation in the third inning without giving up any runs and retired the final five batters she faced.
Brooklyn Tapusoa led the Eagles offensively by going three-for-three at the plate and driving in four runs. Tapusoa finished just a double short of hitting for the cycle and now has twelve career home runs. Giselle Ulloa also hit her first home run of the season during the game, joining Yasmin Burrell with two runs batted in each. Leslie Sereno contributed with multiple hits as well, while both Sereno and Ulloa scored three times each.
Coppin State started strong by scoring five runs in the first inning, including Tapusoa’s three-run homer followed by Burrell’s two-run double. The team added single runs in both the second and third innings before capping off their performance with three more runs in the fourth frame.
The Eagles are scheduled to play next against Norfolk State at CSU on April 11-12 for another MEAC series.
