Coppin State University’s softball team lost to Towson University, 10-6, on April 1 in a high-scoring game at Tiger Softball Stadium. Coppin State fell to a season record of 2-17 while Towson improved to 19-14.
The game saw Coppin State outhit its local rival but ultimately come up short. Aniyah Haley led the Eagles with three hits, and Julianna Mejia, Leslie Sereno, and Cameran Corbett each recorded multiple hits as well. Mejia and Sereno both scored two runs; Mejia hit two doubles while Sereno collected two runs batted in.
Emily Quintero pitched a complete game for the Eagles, allowing six earned runs on nine hits over six innings. The tie was brief as Towson responded with seven more runs over the next three innings.
Coppin State rallied again in the fifth inning for three more runs but could not close the gap further. Quintero held Towson scoreless for the final two innings; however, Coppin’s offense was unable to generate additional scoring opportunities late in the game.
