Coppin State University’s women’s basketball team lost to South Carolina State 58-47 on Thursday night at PEC Arena in Baltimore. The Eagles’ shooting struggles continued, as they converted only 23.8% of their field goal attempts and went 4-of-24 from three-point range. Coppin State now holds a 3-14 overall record and is 1-1 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), while South Carolina State improved to 4-13, also with a 1-1 conference record.

Khila Morris led the Eagles with 11 points, while Skylar Barnes added ten points and Erin Henry contributed seven. Shanaii Gamble recorded a game-high 11 rebounds for Coppin State. The team made just over half of its free throws, finishing at 54.2%.

South Carolina State shot 50 percent from the field in the second half and finished the game at 41.2%. The Bulldogs took control early, responding to an initial tip-in by Gamble with an 11-0 run that set the tone for most of the contest.

Coppin State managed to tie the score at 25 late in the first half after Henry hit a transition three-pointer. However, South Carolina State regained the lead before halftime and maintained it throughout the remainder of the game.

The third quarter was closely contested, but South Carolina State pulled away by scoring the first twelve points of the fourth quarter as Coppin missed its first ten shots in that period. Henry ended Coppin’s scoring drought with a layup in transition with three minutes remaining.

Coppin State will look to rebound when it hosts NC Central on Saturday, January 10 at PEC Arena, with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
