Hartley and Epps secure singles wins as Navy defeats Loyola women’s tennis

The Loyola University Maryland women’s tennis team lost 5-2 to Navy on Apr. 8 at the Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland.

Navy won four singles matches and two doubles contests to clinch the overall victory, while Loyola managed two points in singles play.

In singles action, Emma Gu of Navy started with a straight-set win over Christine Richiez at No. 1. Elena Hartley brought Loyola its first point by coming from behind to defeat Nicole Fu in three sets at No. 2. Victoria Epps added another point for Loyola with a close win against Olivia Fermo at No. 4.

Navy secured additional singles victories as Grace Li defeated Mia Matriccino at No. 3, Molly Bellia overcame Emma Roeck in three sets at No. 5, and Peyton Philemon beat Emi Shivkumar in straight sets at No. 6.

In doubles competition, Navy captured the point by winning the top two matches: Olivia Fermo and Nicole Fu beat Christine Richiez and Emma Roeck at No. 1, while Julia Lee and Grace Li prevailed over Emi Shivkumar and Elena Hartley at No. 2. Loyola’s duo of Mia Matriccino and Victoria Epps earned a win for the Greyhounds against Peyton Philemon and Anna Jordaan at No. 3.

The match reflects continued competition within collegiate women’s tennis as teams prepare for upcoming conference play.
