Kweisi Mfume, currently serving in the U.S. Congress for Maryland’s 7th district, has taken to social media to address several issues of both personal and national concern. Serving since 2020 after replacing Elijah Cummings, Mfume shared reflections and acknowledgments through a series of tweets.

On March 27, 2025, Mfume commemorated the anniversary of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse. He stated, “A year removed from the collapse of our beloved Francis Scott Key Bridge, our hearts continue to go out to the families who lost their loved ones on that fateful day. At yesterday’s Francis Scott Key Bridge Commemoration, I shared this sentiment directly to the grieving”.

Later that day, Mfume expressed his concerns about a security breach, commenting on the potential risks to military operations. He tweeted, “I have very serious concerns regarding the security breach, as it was a gross mishandling of our deepest secrets and confidential military operations and could have put American troops at risk should this information have fallen in the wrong hands.”

On March 28, 2025, Mfume expressed gratitude for receiving recognition from the Maryland Senate. He remarked, “Thank you, Senate President Bill Ferguson, for presenting me and fellow recipient, Theresa Hope-Goddard, with the 2025 First Citizen Award last week. I was both surprised and humbled to be honored by the Maryland Senate in this way.”
