Kweisi Mfume, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 7th district and Baltimore native, used his social media platform to address recent federal actions under the Trump Administration. On October 16, 2025, Mfume commented on a judicial ruling regarding federal employment, and on October 17, he responded to a funding pause for Army Corps of Engineers projects in Democratic-led cities.
The following day, he addressed the Trump Administration’s policy toward infrastructure funding: “This newly announced pause of preapproved funding for the Army Corps of Engineers projects in blue cities – including Baltimore – is another example of the Trump Administration placing partisan politics over the welfare of the American people.” In a subsequent post made at nearly the same time, he added: “This pause of approved congressional funding is as amoral as it is unpatriotic. Americans living in Democratic-led cities may be a ‘lower-priority’ for Russell Vought and Donald Trump, but not for those of us who will fight back each and every step of the way.”
Mfume has represented Maryland’s 7th District since 2020 after succeeding Elijah Cummings. He previously served in the Maryland House of Representatives from 1987 to 1996 and holds a BA from Morgan State University. At age 74, Mfume continues to reside in Baltimore.
