Kweisi Mfume, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 7th district, recently used his social media platform to address issues ranging from the rising cost of living to legislative action on health care subsidies and local Veterans Day observances.
On November 10, 2025, Mfume highlighted concerns about essential expenses by stating, “Any agreement to go forward without addressing skyrocketing health care premiums and the high cost of groceries and home electricity is no deal at all. Where is Monty Hall when we need him?”.
The following day, Mfume marked Veterans Day with a public appearance in Baltimore. He wrote on November 11, 2025: “In honor of Veterans Day, I had the privilege of joining @MayorBMScott at Baltimore’s Veterans Day Parade. Each day, our servicemembers make the ultimate sacrifice to protect our nation and its ideals. Let us continue to commend their courage, celebrate their service, and support”.
On November 13, 2025, Mfume shared his position on a recent Republican-sponsored bill concerning health care subsidies: “Tonight I voted against the Republican bill to deny health care subsidies to 20 million Americans. I will not vote for a bill that fails to lower health care costs and does nothing to make groceries and electric bills more affordable for working families.”
Mfume has represented Maryland’s 7th District in Congress since replacing Elijah Cummings in 2020. He previously served in the Maryland House of Representatives from 1987 to 1996. Born in Baltimore in 1948 and currently residing there at age 74, he graduated from Morgan State University with a BA.
