Kweisi Mfume, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 7th district and Baltimore native, has recently used his social media platform to pay tribute to local leaders and highlight historical milestones relevant to his constituency.
On November 5, 2025, Mfume expressed condolences for a prominent community figure: “I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Herbert Brown. For more than 101 years, Herb lived an exceptional life; he served in World War II, owned the first full-service Black-owned travel agency in #Maryland, and was a leader in the Vanguard”.
The following day, on November 6, 2025, Mfume recognized the achievements of a national political leader: “Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi made political history in so many ways during her nearly four decades of leadership. She broke the mold by ascending twice to the role of Speaker of the House of Representatives and in doing so inspired countless numbers of women and girls to believe”.
On November 7, 2025, Mfume highlighted Baltimore’s educational legacy with a reference to Public School 103: “The historic Public School 103 in Baltimore taught so many who went on to play pivotal roles in shaping our nation, like Justice Thurgood Marshall, Cab Calloway, and Clarence Mitchell Jr. I am proud to have introduced bipartisan legislation, alongside the entire Maryland”.
Mfume has represented Maryland’s 7th district since replacing Elijah Cummings in Congress in 2020. He previously served in the Maryland House of Representatives from 1987 to 1996. Born in Baltimore in 1948 and a graduate of Morgan State University with a BA degree, Mfume remains closely connected to his local community through both legislative work and public statements.
