Loyola University Maryland men’s lacrosse team defeated Lafayette College 16-7 in a Patriot League game at Fisher Stadium, according to an April 11 announcement. The Greyhounds built a significant lead in the first half by winning 14 of the first 15 faceoffs, largely due to Carson Hall’s efforts.
The result highlights Loyola’s control during the match, as they finished with an overall faceoff record of 18 wins out of 27 attempts. Hall contributed by winning 15 out of his 20 faceoffs and collecting a career-high eleven ground balls. Loyola held a notable advantage in ground balls, finishing with a total of thirty-seven compared to Lafayette’s sixteen.
The Greyhounds started strong, scoring three goals within the first twelve minutes from Matthew Minicus, Brady West, and Luke Murphy. After Lafayette responded with two goals, Minicus scored again just before the end of the first quarter. This goal sparked a five-goal run for Loyola that helped them reach halftime leading ten to three.
Minicus led all players with six points on four goals and two assists. Murphy added two goals and one assist; Mason Cook had three goals and one assist; West scored twice; Connor Wilbur had one goal and set a career high with three assists. On defense, Loyola limited Lafayette to twenty-seven shots while taking fifty-one themselves. Max Watkinson made seven saves for Loyola, while Ben Abel contributed another save.
Loyola is now eight wins and four losses overall this season (five wins and one loss in conference play). The team will conclude its regular-season home schedule on Saturday, April 18 at noon when it hosts Army West Point at Ridley Athletic Complex.
