Loyola University Maryland’s men’s lacrosse team defeated Boston University 19-11 in a Patriot League game at Ridley Athletic Complex, according to an April 4 report. The Greyhounds scored three goals in the opening two minutes and led 7-0 after the first quarter, extending their advantage to 12-1 early in the second half.

The victory is significant for Loyola (7-4 overall, 4-1 Patriot League), as it demonstrates their offensive depth and ability to score through various units including attack, midfield, defense, rope, and faceoff. The team managed goals in multiple scenarios such as settled six-on-six play, transition opportunities, man-up and man-down situations. Notably, goalie Max Watkinson scored a goal for Loyola—the first by a Greyhounds goalie since 2018.

The starting attack contributed significantly with Mason Cook scoring six goals; Matthew Minicus added five goals and one assist; Kenan Everhart recorded two goals and four assists. Connor Wilbur also tallied a goal with two assists. Watkinson finished with his first career points: a goal and an assist alongside making seventeen saves—just two short of his career high from last season.

Loyola’s fast start began with Brady Quinn assisting Minicus just thirty-four seconds into the game. Quick follow-up scores came from Cook after a Miles Halter ground ball on Carson Hall’s faceoff win and Wilbur following another Hall faceoff victory assisted by Everhart. Defensive plays were highlighted by Joe Houlihan picking up five ground balls while Jake Wilson caused two turnovers.

Boston University outshot Loyola but was less efficient on target; Loyola shot .432 compared to Boston University’s .192 shooting percentage. Despite conceding some momentum late in the match as Boston closed within seven early in the fourth quarter, Loyola responded with key extra-man and man-down goals from Minicus and Cook respectively.

Looking ahead, Loyola will continue its Patriot League schedule against Lafayette College on Saturday, April 11.
