Loyola University Maryland’s men’s lacrosse team secured a 17-13 win over Towson University on Tuesday at Ridley Athletic Complex. The Greyhounds never trailed during the match, with their starting attack accounting for 11 goals and six assists.

Kenan Everhart led Loyola with career highs of five goals, four assists, and nine points. Teammates Matthew Minicus and Mason Cook each contributed three goals and one assist. Carson Hall tied his personal best by winning 17 faceoffs and set a new high with nine ground balls, helping the Greyhounds control possession throughout the game. Max Watkinson made 14 saves in goal.

Loyola started strong, scoring twice in the first five minutes before Towson got on the scoreboard. After Connor Wilbur scored off an Everhart assist less than a minute later, Loyola went on a 6-1 run to lead 8-2 early in the second quarter. During this stretch, Everhart recorded three goals and an assist while Cook and Minicus each added one goal.

Cook achieved his fifth consecutive hat trick this season just before halftime. Towson responded quickly to cut Loyola’s lead to 9-4 heading into halftime.

In the second half, Loyola extended its advantage by scoring three of the first four goals within four minutes and twenty seconds of play. Murphy picked up a rebound to score, Halter added his first goal of the season, and Everhart finished off another opportunity assisted by Cook.

Towson answered with four straight goals to close within three late in the third quarter. However, Loyola capitalized on an extra-man opportunity when Will McCulloch scored after receiving a pass from Minicus. Alex Roussel followed up with another quick goal for Towson but Will Musgrove restored Loyola’s margin by netting his first career goal before the end of the third period.

Minicus scored twice more in the fourth quarter while Everhart tallied again as Loyola pushed its lead to seven before finishing ahead by four at the final whistle.

Brady Quinn set a career mark with three assists; Wilbur matched his own record with three points on one goal and two assists.

The Tigers entered having won nearly 59 percent of faceoffs this season but were outperformed as Loyola claimed victory in 19 out of 34 attempts—Hall taking 17 himself—and collected more ground balls overall (44 compared to Towson’s 36).

Tuesday’s contest marked the start of a five-game homestand for Loyola. The Greyhounds will next host Providence College at Ridley Athletic Complex on Saturday, March 7 at noon.
