Max Watkinson was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for the third time this season, according to an announcement on Apr. 27. The recognition comes after his performance in the regular-season finale, where he made 16 saves on Friday night.

Watkinson, a senior from Baltimore, played a key role in helping the Greyhounds secure a share of the Patriot League regular-season title with their win at Navy. He recorded 10 of his 16 saves during the second half against Navy’s Midshipmen.

With Loyola leading by one goal at 13-12 late in regulation, Watkinson stopped a shot by Mac Haley from inside ten yards with less than ten seconds remaining. The Greyhounds’ defense then completed the stop to preserve their victory.

Following this result, Watkinson and Loyola will enter the Patriot League Championships as the No. 2 seed and receive a first-round bye. They are set to play Boston University, Bucknell or Colgate in a semifinal game scheduled for Friday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. in West Point, New York.

The team’s recent success and Watkinson’s consistent performances highlight their position as contenders going into postseason play.
