Loyola University Maryland announced on Apr. 30 that classmates Luke Murphy and Max Watkinson have been selected for the Academic All-Patriot League Team in men’s lacrosse. The honor recognizes their achievements both academically and athletically.
This marks the second consecutive year that Watkinson has received this recognition, making him the fifth Loyola player to earn multiple Academic All-Patriot League honors since the university joined the conference in 2014. Watkinson has achieved at least 10 saves in 27 of his last 32 starts as goalkeeper over three seasons. He currently ranks third in the Patriot League for both save percentage, with .528, and saves per game, averaging 12.86.
Murphy leads all Greyhounds midfielders with 15 goals this season and was recently named to the All-Patriot League Second Team. In addition to his goals, he has recorded five assists this year, bringing his career totals at Loyola to 30 goals and 14 assists.
Both athletes are set to compete with their teammates when Loyola opens play in the Patriot League Championships against Colgate University on Friday, May 1. The game will take place at Blaik Field at Michie Stadium in West Point, New York.
Their selection highlights continued academic excellence among Loyola’s student-athletes as they prepare for postseason competition.
