Baltimore, Maryland is ranked the 5th best “weed city” in America, according to a new report released by Real Estate Witch and cannabis shopping site, Leafly.

The report ranked cities based on a variety of factors, including legality of cannabis, Google search data, number of dispensaries and cannabis-prescribing doctors, and price of “high quality weed.”

“Just months after recreational marijuana became legal, Baltimore is already one of the best weed cities in the U.S. With a 92 out of 100, Baltimore has the fourth-highest “pot passion” score, based on Google searches for marijuana-related keywords,” said the report.

Denver was ranked #1 in the study, while Louisville was ranked 50th out of 50 metros ranked.

An estimated 48.2 million American used marijuana in 2019, making it the most commonly used illegal drug in the country, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

Marijuana use can result in a number of negative health effects, according to the CDC, including feelings of anxiety and paranoia, lung tissue damage, scarring and damage to small blood vessels, increased risk of stroke, heart disease, and other vascular diseases, and reduced brain function.

Marijuana use is associated with a variety of negative mental and physical impacts, including health disorders, brain changes, cognitive outcomes, pregnancy and testicular cancer, according to a 2018 paper published in the New England Journal of Medicine

Heavy marijuana use “seems to increase the risk of clogged arteries and heart failure, and it may impact male fertility,” reported Scientific American on March 1, and “can lead to chronic bronchitis and other respiratory ailments.”

“Studies suggest that heavy weed use exacerbates—or may trigger—schizophrenia, psychosis and depression in youths and that it affects behavior and academic performance,” reported Scientific American.
