University of Baltimore issued the following announcement on May 8.
For the semester’s final event in the University of Baltimore’s education series covering the history of Martin Luther King’s Poor People’s Campaign, Distinguised Professor Emeritus Lenneal J. Henderson will present a one-man play about A. Philip Randolph, acclaimed civil rights leader and labor organizer. Henderson will portray Randolph, who organized the 1963 March on Washington and established the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, the first American Federation of Labor union under black leadership. The event will take place on Monday, May 14 at 5:30 p.m. in the Town Hall in UB’s H. Mebane Turner Learning Commons, 1415 Maryland Ave. It is free and open to the public.
The evening’s host will be veteran broadcaster Marc Steiner, one of the conveners of the University’s Poor People’s Campaign series. Steiner will lead a Q&A wth the audience and offer commentary on various video clips from previous sessions of he course, compiled as Baltimore Revisits the Poor People’s Campaign.
Both Henderson and Steiner were involved in the Poor People’s Campaign and present for all 42 days of its Washington, D.C. focal point, known as “Resurrection City.”
