Notre Dame of Maryland University issued the following announcement on May 9.

Every year, Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) is proud to announce the recipient of the distinguished President’s Medal. Since 1954, the Medal has been awarded to those who demonstrate “outstanding personal qualities and/or professional accomplishments which exemplify the ideals and values expressed in the mission of Notre Dame of Maryland University.”

This year, NDMU awarded the prestigious medal to Missy Evans-Moreland, a member of the NDMU class of 1984. According to Aliza Ross, director of alumnae and alumni relations, the award has significant value in the alumnae and alumni population and the entire NDMU family, “The President’s Medal is one of NDMU’s highest honors. It recognizes outstanding leadership in the community. When the award is presented to an alumna or alumnus, it is especially significant as we strive to model and motivate participation in areas of shared time, talent, and resources.”

Evans-Moreland joins the ranks of past winners including, NDMU’s Chair of the Business and Economics Department, Dr. Deborah Calhoun and, the first recipient of the President’s Medal, Dorothy M. Brown. “I am very appreciative to Notre Dame of Maryland University for their recognition of my service,” said Evans-Moreland. “It is an honor to receive this award.”

In 1984, Evans-Moreland received her Bachelor of Arts in Modern Foreign Languages, and currently works as an independent educational consultant at Moreland & Associates Educational Consulting, LLC. In the past, she has worked as an admissions officer, advocating NDMU to prospective students, and her dedication to College and University Admissions and Independent School Development has spanned more than 20 years of service at various private and public institutions.

Evans-Moreland served on the NDMU of the Board of Trustees with specific work on the Executive Committee, the Academic Affairs and Student Life Committee, and the Institutional Advancement Committee. Her service to campus extends beyond her dedication to the Board. Her advocacy can also be seen through her countless hours of volunteer support at special events, the time she spends meeting and mentoring present NDMU students and the financial commitments she and her husband, Rich, a fellow member on the Board of Trustees, make to the Meletia Society, which includes the recent Gibbons renovation.

In response to Evans-Moreland’s acceptance, President Marylou Yam is proud to see the alumnae legacy carry on. "Missy is a true Notre Dame woman. She is steadfast in her commitment, dedication and love for the institution and our mission. Her volunteerism at Notre Dame special events, fundraising, and other special projects is exceptional. Missy carries the Notre Dame Way in her heart and we are proud to honor her with the President's Medal.”

Evans-Moreland hopes to continue her steadfast commitment to NDMU and, as always, the community is gratefully looking forward to seeing just what she comes up with next.
