BALTIMORE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL: 8 BCPS students receive Leaders and Achievers Scholarships from Comcast NBCUniversal

Baltimore County Public Schools issued the following announcement on May 17.

Eight Baltimore County Public Schools students have been awarded Leaders and Achievers® Scholarships from the Comcast Foundation of Comcast NBCUniversal.

The BCPS students receiving 2018 scholarships are:

  • Afkar AlWakil, Randallstown High School
  • Delaram Doorandish, Dulaney High School  

  • Cydney Ellis, Pikesville High School
  • Joan Maingi, Milford Mill Academy

  • Savannah McShane, Western School of Technology and Environmental Science
  • Jennifer Nguyen, Owings Mills High School

  • Alyssa Perna, George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology
  • Savannah Taylor, Kenwood High School 
The one-time, $1,000 scholarships are awarded to high school seniors on the basis of their community service, academic performance, and leadership skills. This year, 101 Leaders and Achievers Scholarships were awarded to Maryland students. Since the program began in 2001, nearly 27,000 high school seniors across the nation have received more than $28 million in the scholarships.

"All of our Leaders and Achievers Scholarship winners show a strong commitment to their communities and academic achievement," said Mary McLaughlin, senior vice president of Comcast's Beltway Region. "We are honored to recognize their accomplishments and look forward to supporting them as they further their education."

The students were recognized at a special event on May 16 held at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis.
