Please join the MICA community in celebrating the life and work of Dennis Farber, a well-known painter and photographer, who served as the director of the Mount Royal School of Art from 2000 to 2004 and co-chair of MICA's Foundation program from 2010 to 2011.
A memorial exhibition of Farber's work will open at MICA's Meyerhoff Gallery on Friday, May 25. A closing and rememberance gathering will take place Thursday, June 7 from 5 -7 pm.
Farber passed away Monday , May 8, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. He came to MICA in 1998 with a long and distinguished career as a photographer and painter. His photographic work was part of photography’s expanding boundaries in the 1970s and 80s, most of it from collages of images that had been re-photographed with the 20 x 24 inch Polaroid camera.
In his later years, Farber focused on painting and digital photography and his work can be found among collections at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Baltimore Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Jewish Museum in New York and the Metropolitan Museum of Photography in Tokyo.
He first joined MICA in 1991, but left two years later to become a teacher and associate dean at the University of New Mexico's College of Fine Arts. He returned to MICA in 1996 when he joined the undergraduate and graduate faculty. During his tenure at MICA, Denny was a beloved teacher and always a fierce advocate for students and faculty.
This Memorial Exhibit will highlight and celebrate his paintings and photos.
