Grant

Loyola University Maryland issued the following announcement on May 21.

Loyola’s School of Education gives grant to Overlea High School

Loyola University Maryland’s School of Education secured a grant for Overlea High School Learning Center, Loyola’s partner school for professional learning and development.

The Learning Centers are professional development schools that engage pre-service and in-service educators and University faculty in collaborative activities to promote professional learning and student achievement.

It is the first Learning Center that will be supported through a grant award partnership in the Baltimore County Public School system. The grant will provide an innovative adult learning space within Overlea High School.

Loyola has partnered with Overlea since 1999. The School of Education sends about 5-10 teacher candidates to intern at Overlea every year, in addition to having Loyola faculty who work with the teachers for professional development.

Loyola and Overlea also won an award from The Learning Forward Foundation, an organization focused on effective professional learning for school teachers, and are participating in the Innovation Think Tank Challenge. The challenge asks educators to find ways to innovate learning in the classroom and among teachers. Five award winners are given support to add innovative practices to professional learning.
