Kweisi Mfume, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland's 7th district, shared his reflections and activities surrounding Juneteenth and other political matters through social media posts in June 2025. Mfume, who succeeded Elijah Cummings in 2020, has been vocal about his role in legislative efforts and critical of certain political actions.

On June 19, 2025, Mfume commemorated the historical significance of Juneteenth by recalling its origins. He noted that "#OTD, 160 years ago, the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, were finally freed." He highlighted his involvement as an original cosponsor of the legislation to establish Juneteenth as a federal holiday and mentioned his advocacy on the House floor in 2021 for its passage.

The following day, June 20, Mfume shared details of his participation in a local event celebrating Juneteenth. He stated that he "Celebrated #Juneteenth this year with the Powell Recovery Center—one of Baltimore’s leading alcohol and drug treatment centers." He emphasized that the principles embodied by Juneteenth—strength, resilience, and justice—are mirrored in the work done at Powell Recovery Center.

On June 22, Mfume turned his attention to foreign policy issues. He criticized former President Donald Trump for bypassing Congress before taking military action. In his words: "By not consulting Congress before taking unilateral military action Donald Trump has once again failed to abide by the Constitution." He further commented on Trump's promise to bring peace to the Middle East and expressed disappointment at what he sees as unmet expectations.

Mfume was born in Baltimore in 1948 and graduated from Morgan State University with a BA. His career includes serving in both state and national legislatures since 1987.
