Cost of college went up for all students at Coppin State University

In-state tuition and fees rose 0.5 percent for 2017-18 at Coppin State University, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

Maryland residents paid $7,474 to attend the four-year public institution this year $36 more than the $7,438 charged for 2016-17.

Non-residents paid 82.3 percent more than residents this year, or $13,622. Their price tag grew 3.4 percent from $13,168 in 2016-17.

About 65 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Maryland residents. About 17 percent are residents of other states and 17 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 92 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 207 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.96 million and 158 students took out student loans totaling more than $933,083.

Including all undergraduates, 1,972 students used grants or scholarships totaling $14.82 million. Another 1,763 took out $13.82 million in federal student loans.
