BALTIMORE HIGHLANDS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Recognition of service luncheon to honor Baltimore County school resource officers

Baltimore Highlands Elementary School issued the following announcement on Aug. 23.

What: Superintendent Verletta White and other Baltimore County Public Schools leaders will honor school resource officers at a recognition of service luncheon. At the event, which will include professional learning opportunities for SROs, the following SROs will be formally recognized:

•Officer Lee Brown of George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology, 2018 BCPS High School SRO of the Year

•Officer Jonathan M. Gill of Deer Park Middle School, 2018 BCPS Middle School SRO of the Year

•Officer Tamara Rayof Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts,who received one of seven 2018 Regional Exceptional Service Awards from the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO)

•Officer Don Bridges, past president of NASRO (Bridges was assigned to Franklin High School last school year but will become an elementary school SRO for the 2018-19 school year.)

•Officer Roy Mitchell, Jr., of Dundalk Middle School,who rescued a child from near drowning while on a break from a NASRO School Safety Conference being held in Reno

When: Monday, August 27, at 12 noon

Where: Delta Hotels Baltimore Hunt Valley

Background:SROs are Baltimore County police officers stationed at every BCPS middle and high school to ensure the maintenance of safe and orderly learning environments. Beginning with the 2018-2019 school year, there will be 19 additional SROs, including one officer in each of the county’s 10 precincts to serve that precinct’s elementary schools.
