University of Baltimore issued the following announcement on Oct. 9.
Adam Robinson, M.F.A. '10, the founder of Publishing Genius Press, will join poets Megan McShea and Param Anand Singhfor an evening of poetry as well as a discussion about the power of small-press publishing, as the University of Baltimore's M.F.A. in Creative Writing & Publishing Arts Reading Series continues on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 7:30 p.m. The event, free and open to the public, will take place in the Wright Theater in the UB Student Center, 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave.
Robinson started his press, Publishing Genius, in 2006 as part of an assignment during his first semester at UB. Since then, PGP has released more than 50 books, many of which have gone on to win awards and be translated and republished by larger houses.
McShea is the author of two books published by University of Baltimore alumni: A Mountain City of Toad Splendor (Publishing Genius, 2013) and How to have a day (Ink Press Productions, 2015). In the anthology Ancient Party: Collaborations in Baltimore 2000-2010 (2014), she edited and published a book of writing generated by "plork-friendly" exercises. ("Plork" is the idea of combining play with work as a means of expression, creativity and drive.) McShea's new book, Steep in the Boil, will be released by PGP later this fall. She lives in Baltimore and works as an archivist.
Singh is a poet and translator living in Henderson, N.Y. Yr Skull a Cathedral (Publishing Genius, 2018) is his first book of poetry. His sci-fi comedy thriller series, Reverse Transmission, is an eight-part audio drama forthcoming from Audible.
The M.F.A. in Creative Writing & Publishing Arts Reading Series is ponsored by the Hearst Visiting Scholars Fund.
