Cost of college went up for all students at Coppin State University

In-state tuition and fees rose 18.7 percent for 2018-19 at Coppin State University, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Maryland residents paid $8,873 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $1,399 more than the $7,474 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 70.7 percent more than residents this year, or $15,144. Their price tag grew 11.2 percent from $13,622 in 2017-18.

About 75 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Maryland residents. About 21 percent are residents of other states and 3 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 93 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 337 students received grants or scholarships totaling $2.9 million and 255 students took out student loans totaling more than $1.4 million.

Including all undergraduates (2,738), 1,927 students used grants or scholarships totaling $13.8 million, and 1,573 students took out $11.7 million in federal student loans.
