Cost of college went up for all students at Morgan State University

In-state tuition and fees rose 1.7 percent for 2018-19 at Morgan State University, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Maryland residents paid $7,900 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $134 more than the $7,766 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 130 percent more than residents this year, or $18,167. Their price tag grew 1.9 percent from $17,832 in 2017-18.

About 64 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Maryland residents. About 35 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 94 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 992 students received grants or scholarships totaling $9.2 million and 902 students took out student loans totaling more than $6.4 million.

Including all undergraduates (7,712), 4,733 students used grants or scholarships totaling $42.1 million, and 4,231 students took out $30.4 million in federal student loans.
