Baltimore, Maryland – U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett has sentenced Dexter Nikoe Eaton, a 34-year-old resident of Baltimore, to 14 years in federal prison for armed bank robbery and related offenses. This will be followed by three years of supervised release. The sentence is linked to a series of robberies that took place in 2022.
The announcement was made by Erek L. Barron, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland; Special Agent in Charge William J. DelBagno from the FBI's Baltimore Field Office; and Commissioner Richard Worley of the Baltimore Police Department.
According to Eaton’s plea agreement, he was involved in six separate robbery incidents between June 3 and July 30, 2022. These included five robberies and one attempted robbery at banks and other businesses, with Eaton using a firearm during four of these events.
Eaton admitted that on June 3, 2022, he robbed a bank located on West North Avenue in Baltimore by passing a note demanding money and threatening the teller's family if his demands were not met. On June 9, he attempted another robbery at a check cashing business but fled when the teller activated an alarm instead of complying with his demands.
On June 10, Eaton entered another bank on West North Avenue armed with a handgun. He threatened customers and employees while demanding $4,000 from a bank employee who complied out of fear for their safety.
Further incidents occurred on June 27 when Eaton robbed a bank on Liberty Heights Avenue by threatening both the security guard and customers with a handgun to secure money from the teller.
Eaton continued his spree into late July with two more robberies at businesses on West North Avenue where he held employees at gunpoint until they handed over cash.
U.S. Attorney Barron commended the efforts of the FBI and Baltimore Police Department in their investigation into these crimes. He also acknowledged Assistant U.S. Attorneys Reema Sood and Paul E. Budlow for prosecuting the case.
