Kweisi Mfume, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland's 7th district, has shared his views on several issues through recent tweets. Mfume, who succeeded Elijah Cummings in 2020, has been vocal about the importance of Black history and his stance on political matters concerning the federal government.

On February 3, 2025, Mfume emphasized the significance of Black History Month by referencing the lyrics of "Lift Every Voice and Sing," penned by James Weldon Johnson. He stated, "As we celebrate Black History Month, we should be reminded of the lyrics of 'Lift Every Voice and Sing,' written by James Weldon Johnson - Let us march on until victory is won! We need Black history (not his-story) now more than ever before; Black history is American history."

Later that day, Mfume expressed concerns regarding actions taken by President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. As a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, he called for adherence to legal standards, remarking "As a Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I am calling on President Trump and his Secretary of State Marco Rubio to cease this foolishness and obey the law. President Trump and Elon Musk’s reckless actions to close the doors at USAID are shameful, puzzling."

On February 4, 2025, Mfume announced his participation in a letter advocating for an expanded investigation into what he described as efforts by President Trump to politicize the federal government. He tweeted "THREAD: (1/3) Yesterday, I joined a letter to expand an investigation into President Trump’s sweeping efforts to purge and politicize the federal government. In our letter, @OversightDems cited the U.S. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s legislative jurisdiction."
