The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore has launched the second season of its podcast, "Free Admissions." The new season starts with an episode titled "Can books kill?" which was released on February 5, 2025. This season includes over 20 guests across six episodes, featuring museum curators, art handlers, volunteers, conservators, and local contemporary artists such as Jessy DeSantis, Chris Jay, and Jackie Milad.
"When Free Admissions launched in January 2024, it joined the Journal of the Walters Art Museum, the Walters magazine, its websites, and its social media accounts as yet another robust resource through which the broad public can meaningfully learn about the distinguished artworks in our collection for free," stated Connie McAllister, Director of Marketing and Communications. She noted that the first season was well-received by art enthusiasts who listened from various locations. McAllister added that season two would continue to offer thoughtful content similar to what listeners have come to expect from the museum's exhibitions and programs.
The podcast aims to provide insights into museum operations and features interviews with guests discussing various topics related to art and culture. The Walters Art Museum has been offering free admission since 2006 and eliminated its ticketing system for special exhibitions in 2015.
Each episode serves as a comprehensive guide to the museum's collection. Hosted by Digital Marketing Associate Karena Ingram, "Free Admissions" allows listeners to connect with seven millennia of art at one of America's most distinctive museums.
The first episode explores rare books containing toxic materials like arsenic and mercury found in the museum's collection. Subsequent episodes will cover diverse topics such as Latin American art and ghost encounters within the museum.
