Loyola University Maryland issued the following announcement on June 19.
Loyola University Maryland’s Sellinger School of Business and Management named Thomas S. Bozzuto, chairman and co-founder of The Bozzuto Group, the 2018 Business Leader of the Year. The award honors business executives who embody Loyola’s Jesuit commitment to community and service in the leadership of their organization.
Loyola will honor Bozzuto at the annual Business Leader of the Year dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at the Renaissance Harborplace Hotel in Baltimore.
"When we select the Business Leader of the Year, we intentionally honor a leader and an organization that have a deep commitment to Baltimore and to Maryland," said Kathleen A. Getz, Ph.D., dean of the Sellinger School. "Through his vision and guidance of The Bozzuto Group, Tom Bozzuto is an outstanding example of a business leader who recognizes the role a company can play in strengthening communities, partnering with nonprofits, providing exceptional service to its customers, and ensuring that the environment is valued and preserved."
The Bozzuto Group is a diversified and full-service real estate company that recently celebrated 30 years. Bozzuto and his partners have overseen the development and construction of more than 50,000 residences. The Bozzuto Group manages 70,000 apartments and builds more than 1,000 homes and apartments annually. The Bozzuto Group has earned several awards, including Builder of the Year from National Association of Home Builders, Multifamily Development Firm of the Year, and Property Management Company of the Year.
The firm has been continuously recognized as a Best Place to Work by the Washington Business Journal and the Washington Post. The firm was recognized as a top 10 company in the nation by Multifamily Executive Magazine. The National Association of Female Executives recently selected the firm as a top company for executive women.
As a first-generation college student, Bozzuto is dedicated to making a higher education possible. He and his wife, Barbara, established the Thomas S. Bozzuto ’68 Endowed Scholarship Fund, the Bozzuto Family First-Generation Endowed Scholarship, and the Bozzuto Center for Entrepreneurship at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
Bozzuto, an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and veteran, is actively involved in national housing policy. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, a member of the advisory board of the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies, a board member of Greater Baltimore Committee, and a member of the board and the executive committee at the Baltimore Community Foundation. He has previously served as president of Baltimore Citizens Planning and Housing Association, chair of the Maryland Science Center, chairman of the National Multifamily Housing Council, and the vice president of the Walters Art Gallery.
He has served as a senatorial appointee to the Millennial Housing Commission and has been a member of the Governor's Commission on Housing Policy. He has earned numerous awards, including the Urban Land Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Bozzuto is a graduate of Hobart College, has a master’s degree from The Maxwell School at Syracuse University and an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
