Extended Day Learning Program in the Baltimore County Public Schools reported a dropout rate of 12.64 percent during the 2016-2017 school year, according to a Baltimore City Wire analysis of the latest Maryland schools report card.

That 12.64 percent is equivalent to 34 students, out of an enrollment of 269 at Extended Day Learning Program.

The annual dropout rate as defined by the Maryland State Department of Education is the percentage of students in grades 9 through 12 who leave school before graduation or completion of a state-approved education program for any reason except death. It only includes students who do not enroll in another school or education program during the current year, which runs from July through June.

The Maryland Department of Education calculates the dropout rate by dividing the number of dropouts by the total number of students enrolled.

Overall, 275,384 students were enrolled in Maryland public schools during the 2016-2017 school year. Of those, 2.75 percent (or 7,583 students) dropped out, which is a slight increase from the 2.57 percent of the previous school year.
