Baltimore, Maryland – United States District Judge Brendan A. Hurson today sentenced Gary Leon Holloway, age 46, of Baltimore, Maryland, to fourteen years in federal prison, followed by four years of supervised release, for the armed robberies of cellphone stores located in Howard County, Anne Arundel County, and Baltimore County, Maryland.

The sentence was announced by Erek L. Barron, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland; Special Agent in Charge Toni M. Crosby of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Baltimore Field Division; Chief Gregory Der of the Howard County Police Department; Chief Amal E. Awad of the Anne Arundel County Police Department; Chief Robert McCullough of the Baltimore County Police Department; and Commissioner Richard Worley of the Baltimore Police Department.

According to his guilty plea, in January 2020 Holloway and his co-conspirators planned and committed armed robberies at three commercial businesses. Specifically, on January 4th, January 15th, and January 22nd Holloway and at least one co-defendant robbed cellphone stores in Ellicott City, Glen Burnie, and Dundalk respectively. Holloway brandished a gun during each robbery while he and his co-defendant stole cellphones and other electronic devices. In the first robbery they also stole wallets from two employees; in the third robbery they forced employees to open a safe from which they stole cash along with cellphones and electronic devices. After this third robbery Holloway and two co-defendants were arrested in Baltimore County.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement with communities to reduce violent crime and gun violence aiming to make neighborhoods safer for everyone. On May 26th 2021 the Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on core principles: fostering trust within communities; supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence before it occurs; setting focused strategic enforcement priorities; measuring results.

U.S. Attorney Barron commended ATF as well as police departments from Howard County Anne Arundel County Baltimore County along with Baltimore City for their work on this investigation thanking Assistant U.S Attorneys John W Sippel Jr., Adey Adenrele who prosecuted this case.
