U.S. District Judge Julie R. Rubin has sentenced Chad Christopher Langgle, a 30-year-old resident of Hagerstown, Maryland, to ten years in federal prison for possessing child pornography. Following his prison term, Langgle will be under lifetime supervised release.
The announcement was made by Erek L. Barron, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, alongside Special Agent in Charge Michael S. McCarthy from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
Langgle's guilty plea revealed that in December 2022, he distributed over 50 videos containing child pornography via email and stored additional images on his cell phone and email account. He had prior convictions for sex abuse of a minor and second-degree assault on a minor in Calvert County Circuit Court, as well as a second-degree sex offense conviction in St. Mary's County Circuit Court.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project coordinates federal, state, and local resources to apprehend offenders and rescue victims.
U.S. Attorney Barron acknowledged the efforts of HSI, the Maryland State Police, and the United States Marshals Service during the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Reema Sood is prosecuting the case.
