Kweisi Mfume, a current member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 7th district, recently shared his thoughts on several matters through social media posts. He has been serving in this capacity since 2020, succeeding Elijah Cummings, and previously served in the Maryland House of Representatives from 1987 to 1996.

On June 14, 2025, Mfume expressed his condolences via Twitter to the families and loved ones of Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, as well as State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette. In his message, he emphasized the need to condemn political violence unequivocally. "My prayers are with the families and loved ones of Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, as well as State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife Yvette during this trying time."

The following day, June 15, 2025, Mfume took to social media again to extend Father’s Day wishes. He reflected on the joy he finds in being both a father and grandfather while expressing gratitude towards all fathers and father figures for their roles in daily life. "Happy Father’s Day! It is the joy of my life to be a father and a grandfather."

On June 16, 2025, Mfume visited a sit-in demonstration by former federal employees at the U.S. Capitol steps to show solidarity with those he believes were unjustly dismissed from public service positions. His support was vocalized through an affirmation that they would collectively work through these challenges together. "Recently, I stopped by the Fired Feds sit-in on the steps of the U.S. Capitol to reaffirm my support for hardworking public servants unjustly fired."

Kweisi Mfume was born in Baltimore in 1948 and currently resides there at age 74. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Morgan State University.
