Kweisi Mfume, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 7th district, recently addressed a range of issues on his social media accounts, including federal oversight, local heritage, and community engagement.

On July 30, 2025, Mfume criticized the Trump Administration's approach to congressional oversight. In a post dated July 30, he stated: "Donald Trump and his Administration keep moving the goalposts on oversight. ICE’s refusal to allow Members of Congress to enter a holding facility for the purposes of conducting oversight is a violation of federal law and a direct attack on our constitutional duty."

Later that same day, Mfume celebrated Baltimore’s long history and culture. He wrote on July 30: "Today, we celebrate 296 years of rich history, vibrant culture, and an indomitable spirit that makes Baltimore truly one of a kind. There’s simply no city like it— from the roar of the Ravens M&T Bank Stadium to the crack of the bat at an Orioles game..."

On August 1, Mfume highlighted his recent efforts to engage with constituents about pressing policy matters. He posted: "#ICYMI This week, I hosted a #Townhall to discuss the issues of #Immigration, #Medicaid, and Congressional oversight. Joining me were Immigration Attorney Adonia Simpson and Maryland #HealthcareForAll Deputy Director Stephanie Klapper..."

Mfume has served in Congress since 2020 after replacing Elijah Cummings as representative for Maryland's 7th District. Prior to this role in Congress beginning in 2020, he was also active in state politics as a member of the Maryland House of Representatives from 1987 to 1996. Born in Baltimore in 1948 and currently residing there at age 74, Mfume holds a Bachelor’s degree from Morgan State University.
